Benue LG Chairmen Unite for New Security Strategy

Chairmen of the 23 local government areas (LGAs) in Benue State are uniting to combat insecurity in their regions by adopting a common strategy. This initiative follows the development of a People-Centred Public Safety (PCPS) model by the Benue State Bureau of Homeland Security and Lawyers Alert, under the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
Rommy Mom, President of Lawyers Alert, stated that the model aims to engage communities in identifying and addressing security issues through early warning systems, dialogue, mediation, and information sharing. The initiative will also establish a framework for local councils to collaborate with residents, government agencies, and security institutions to tackle security challenges.
The chairmen are scheduled to meet in Makurdi on Wednesday to review the model's implementation in Guma, Katsina-Ala, and Agatu LGAs. Benue State continues to face security issues, including banditry and conflicts between farmers and herders, despite ongoing efforts by federal and state governments.
