Kwankwaso Disappointed as Former Ally Defects to APC After 2019 Election Battle

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a prominent Nigerian politician, expressed disappointment as Abba Kabir Yusuf, a long-time political ally, defected from the NNPP to the APC. Kwankwaso recalled their joint efforts in the 2019 Kano governorship election, which ended in a legal battle ultimately won by Abdullahi Ganduje of the APC.

Kwankwaso accused Yusuf of betraying their trust and sacrificing NNPP's support in Kano State. The defection comes amidst internal crises and leadership disputes within NNPP.

Kwankwaso preferred that Yusuf joined the ADC instead of defecting to the APC. The 2019 election saw Yusuf, then a PDP member, lose to Ganduje, with the Supreme Court upholding Ganduje's victory in January 2020.
