Betty Akeredolu Targets Imo East Senate Seat in 2027

Betty Akeredolu, the widow of the late former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, formally purchased nomination forms on Thursday to express her interest in contesting for the Imo East Senate seat in the 2027 general elections. She picked up the forms at the Labour Party's national headquarters in Abuja, aiming to represent the Imo East senatorial district and replace the incumbent lawmaker Ezenwa Onyewuchi.

This move comes just two months after she officially joined the Labour Party, indicating her commitment to active participation in partisan politics ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle. Akeredolu confirmed her decision through a social media update, highlighting her involvement in recent high-level administrative activities within the party.

The exercise attracted various aspirants seeking different electoral positions, including Hassan Barguwa, who is contesting for the Gombi/Hong federal constituency seat in Adamawa State, and Denni Oshai, who is vying for the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency seat in Delta State.
