Professor Anakwue's Inaugural Lecture on Cardiovascular Health

On a historic occasion, Professor Raphael Anakwue delivered the 249th inaugural lecture at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, titled “Beyond Traditional Cardiovascular Risk Factors: Toxic Shadows and the Heart-Habitat Interface.” He expressed profound gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, for the opportunity to present this lecture. An inaugural lecture marks a scholar’s promotion to professorship and serves to celebrate achievements while showcasing research that challenges norms and drives societal transformation.

Professor Anakwue aims to reshape the assessment of cardiovascular disease risk, drawing from a lifelong habit of questioning tradition and seeking diverse knowledge. He shared insights from his early life, including his upbringing in a simple family in Ebonyi State, where his father worked in agricultural equipment management and his mother was a primary school teacher.
