Steve Biko's Family Seeks Justice in New Inquest After 48 Years

The family of anti-apartheid hero Steve Biko demanded justice as a new inquest into his death, which occurred 48 years ago, commenced. Biko, a prominent South African activist and founder of the Black Consciousness Movement, died from a brain injury while in police custody during the apartheid era.

His son, Nkosinathi Biko, expressed confidence that the new inquest would lead to the prosecution of those responsible for his father's death. The family emphasized the importance of addressing the violent past to move forward as a country.
