Remembering Professor Biodun Jeyifo: A Literary Legacy

Professor Biodun Jeyifo, a distinguished scholar and mentor, passed away on February 11. Chima Anyadike reflects on Jeyifo's profound impact as a teacher and public intellectual.

Jeyifo was known for his engaging lectures on African literature, where he introduced students to Marxist ideologies in a relatable manner. His mentorship began after graduating, supervising master's and doctoral students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he emphasized rigorous research on African novels.

Jeyifo's notable moments included an interview with Chinua Achebe in the early 1980s, showcasing his connections within the literary community. He was also instrumental in establishing the Africana Studies Research Center at Cornell University, where he invited six African scholars to enhance academic collaboration.
