FG Takes Action to Resolve Nigeria's Gas Supply Crisis

The Nigerian Federal Government is taking steps to resolve a gas supply crisis that has severely impacted power generation in the country. Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, in a message during Eid el-Fitr, highlighted the government's recent interventions aimed at addressing ongoing gas supply challenges that limit power generation.

He noted that the government is implementing concrete measures to ensure a reliable supply of electricity for homes and businesses. The current situation has resulted in power generation dropping below 4,000 megawatts, primarily due to gas constraints affecting thermal power plants.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Power Generating Companies, Dr. Joi Ogaji, disclosed that the sector is facing a significant debt of approximately N3.3 trillion owed to power generating companies, exacerbating the crisis.

Adelabu urged Nigerians to maintain patience as the government works on reforms to stabilize the power sector and improve electricity supply.
