Boat Mishap: Six Feared Dead, Three Missing In Sokoto

Six people are feared dead and three are missing after a boat capsized in Sokoto State, according to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). The incident occurred in a village in the Goronyo Local Government Area, with 19 others rescued.

A joint rescue effort involving local divers, emergency response teams, SEMA, NEMA, NIWA, and the Red Cross was immediately launched. The agencies visited the scene, consoled the victims' families, and coordinated the rescue and recovery operations.

Residents described the scene as harrowing, with cries of anguish heard along the riverbank. The government assured affected families of continued support and emphasized the need to strengthen safety measures on waterways to prevent future tragedies.

A comprehensive report with recommendations is expected to be submitted soon. This incident follows another boat mishap in Sokoto earlier in the week that claimed several lives.
