Victor Boniface, a 25-year-old striker for Werder Bremen, publicly credited Nigerian singer Teni Apata for her support during a challenging period in his football career following a severe knee injury. Boniface underwent surgery on January 10, 2023, after suffering significant cartilage damage during a Bundesliga match in December 2022.

The procedure was performed by renowned surgeon Dr. Christian Fink in Innsbruck, Austria.

Despite persistent knee pain, Boniface managed to return to the bench for Werder Bremen's Bundesliga draw against VfB Stuttgart on April 26, 2023, marking his first matchday squad appearance in three months, although he remained an unused substitute. Manager Daniel Thioun has been careful in managing Boniface's fitness as the club sits 15th in the Bundesliga table, needing to secure points to avoid relegation.
