Borno PDP Representative Defects to APC Amid Party Crisis

A member of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Askira Uba Hawul Federal Constituency of Borno State, Balami, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Balami's decision to defect was communicated in a resignation letter dated January 24, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of Bwalahizhi Ward in Hawul Local Government Area.

He attributed his defection to the persistent internal crises and factional divisions within the PDP, which he believes have weakened the party's effectiveness. Balami expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunity to serve but noted that the party's contributions to his political growth were significant.

His defection adds to the growing list of lawmakers switching allegiances ahead of the 2026 political season, further strengthening the APC's presence in Borno State.
