Borno State Reports 274 New Cholera Cases in 24 Hours

Borno State has recorded 274 fresh cholera cases within 24 hours, as disclosed by Dr. Jacob Audu Thliza during a stakeholders' meeting in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

The cholera outbreak has infected approximately 3,000 individuals across 139 communities in seven local government areas, with a total of 4,204 suspected cases reported since May 1. The areas most affected include Maiduguri, Jere, Mafa, and Konduga.

The case fatality rate has dropped below 1% due to aggressive response measures, including treatment activities and health promotion campaigns. Currently, Maiduguri remains the worst-hit area, with health facilities overwhelmed by patients.

The Borno State Government is preparing to administer oral cholera vaccines in high-risk communities to curb the outbreak. Governor Babagana Zulum has activated isolation centers and ensured the provision of free medical supplies.

The Northern Senate Forum has expressed condolences to the people of Borno State following the cholera outbreak.
