Borno State Reports 274 New Cholera Cases in 24 Hours

Borno State has recorded 274 new cholera cases within a 24-hour period, according to Dr. Thliza during a stakeholders meeting in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on preventive measures and management of acute watery diarrhea and cholera, involving stakeholders from 27 local government areas. The total number of suspected cholera cases has reached 4,204, with significant cases reported in Jere (1,214), Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (2,404), and other areas.

A total of 39 deaths have been recorded, while 2,664 patients have been discharged from treatment centers. Dr.

Shettima Maina, the permanent secretary of the Borno State Ministry of Health and Human Services, noted that the case fatality rate has declined to below 1% due to aggressive treatment responses. Health workers and an ad hoc committee have been deployed to affected communities, distributing materials such as soap, disinfectants, and chlorine to help curb the disease's spread.
