Atiku Accuses APC of Misrepresenting Mambilla Tribunal Ruling

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council of distorting the Mambilla arbitration outcome to create a false corruption narrative. In a statement on September 18, 2026, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku demanded the APC specify where the tribunal found him guilty of bribery or misconduct related to the Mambilla contract awarded to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited.

He clarified that while the tribunal scrutinized a $500,000 transfer linked to Leno Adesanya, it did not conclude that Atiku received a bribe. The tribunal dismissed claims against Sunrise and ordered reimbursement of legal fees to Nigeria, imposing no liability on Atiku.

He also refuted claims of avoiding the tribunal summons, asserting that he was not ordered to testify. Atiku contrasted his situation with Bola Tinubu's 1993 civil forfeiture case, emphasizing the need for the APC to apply legal precision consistently.
