CBN Governor Under Fire for Missing N1.44 Trillion in Public Funds

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Olayemi Cardoso is under scrutiny after the Auditor-General uncovered a missing N1.44 trillion in public funds, with N1 trillion of operational surplus not remitted to the federal government's Consolidated Revenue Fund. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) is demanding full accountability from Cardoso and the CBN leadership, warning of legal action if the missing funds are not explained.

SERAP has also called for investigations by anti-graft agencies like the EFCC and ICPC. The situation reflects deeper institutional failures in transparency and accountability within the CBN.
