Court Orders Arrest of INEC Chairman for Contempt in Osun State

The Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, has ordered the arrest of INEC Chairman Mahmoud Yakubu for contempt and disobedience of a court order. The ruling stemmed from a suit filed by Action Alliance (AA) seeking to compel INEC to recognize the state chairman elected by the party.

Justice Funmilola, presiding over the case, expressed strong displeasure at INEC's failure to comply with an earlier directive favoring AA. The court mandated Yakubu to restore the affected chairman's name on the INEC portal within seven days, warning of immediate arrest by the police if the deadline is not met.

The court affirmed the validity of the national convention that produced the AA chairman.
