Court Orders Arrest of Former INEC Chairman for Contempt

The Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, has ordered the arrest of former INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, for contempt of court. This order stems from a suit filed by Action Alliance (AA) accusing Yakubu of not complying with a previous judgment.

The court had directed INEC to upload the name of Adekunle Rufai Omoaje as the National Chairman of AA, but the party alleged that INEC had not fully complied. Despite a ruling in October 2025 affirming Omoaje as the national chairman, his name was still missing from the INEC website.

Consequently, the court has directed the police to arrest Yakubu and initiate committal proceedings.
