Egbetokun Resigns as Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police

Kayode Egbetokun has officially resigned from his position as the Inspector-General of Police in Nigeria at the request of President Bola Tinubu. This decision was made during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Egbetokun, who was appointed as the 22nd Inspector-General of Police on June 19, 2023, will be succeeded by Assistant Inspector-General Tunji Disu. Egbetokun's tenure was initially extended based on amendments to the Police Act, allowing the Inspector-General to serve a full four-year term unless removed by the President.

However, he is set to retire upon reaching his 60th birthday on September 4, 2024. The formal handover ceremony for Disu is currently being prepared, marking a significant transition in the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
