Egbetokun Resigns as IGP, Tunji Disu Appointed Successor

Kayode Egbetokun has officially resigned from his position as Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the request of President Bola Tinubu. This decision was made during a meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Egbetokun, who was appointed as IGP on June 19, 2023, and confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023, was serving as IGP in an acting capacity and was 58 years old. His tenure was set to extend until his 60th birthday on September 4, 2024, based on amendments to the police act that allow an IGP to serve a full four-year term unless removed by the President.

Tunji Disu has been designated as the new IGP and is preparing for a formal handover ceremony.
