IGP Orders Nationwide Arrest of Police Escorting VIPs Without Approval

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has initiated a nationwide arrest campaign targeting police officers providing unauthorized escort services to VIPs. This action stems from a directive by the President to address the misuse of police resources.

The decision was made during a high-level security meeting in Abuja attended by top security officials. The directive includes withdrawing police personnel attached to VIPs across the country, with a focus on enhancing security through the use of armed protection from agencies like the NSCDC.

This move is part of broader efforts to address security challenges, especially in rural and underserved communities where police presence is limited.
