Goodluck Jonathan Urges Removal of Failed Leaders Like Tinubu Through Proper Elections to Safeguard African Democracy

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has called for the removal of failed leaders like Tinubu through proper elections to prevent democracy's collapse in Africa. Speaking at the 2025 edition of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue in Accra, Ghana, Jonathan emphasized the need for credible elections to combat electoral manipulation, which poses a significant threat to democracy.

He warned that failed leadership thrives when the electoral system is compromised and stressed the importance of governance reform and strengthening institutions. Jonathan highlighted that democracy must go beyond just conducting elections to ensure freedom, inclusivity, education, security, jobs, healthcare, and dignity for citizens.

He urged stakeholders to unite and reform governance to prevent a drift towards authoritarianism.
