Judge Withdraws from El-Rufai's Human Rights Suit

On Friday, Justice Hussaini Belgor announced his withdrawal from the fundamental human rights suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The case was being handled at the Federal Capital Territory High Court.

Justice Belgor stated in open court that he would no longer continue with the case, prompting the matter to be reassigned to a new judge by the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court. The suit challenges actions allegedly taken against El-Rufai by anti-graft and security agencies, including the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

El-Rufai has raised concerns about harassment and unlawful interference with personal liberties, which includes allegations involving the state service department. A bail hearing that was previously scheduled will no longer take place, and the case will remain pending until a new judge is appointed and a fresh hearing date is fixed.

Court officials confirmed that all parties involved will be duly informed once the reassignment process is complete.
