Court Adjourns El-Rufai's ₦1 Billion Suit Against ICPC

On Wednesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja considered a ₦1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The presiding judge expressed dissatisfaction when El-Rufai's lawyer indicated that the second respondent had not yet been served.

The ICPC's representative, Isaac Akwo, requested that the matter be stood down until noon to allow senior counsel Abdul Moham San to appear. The judge declined this request due to the engagement of Justice Abdulmalik.

El-Rufai's suit, filed in the Federal High Court, challenges the validity of a search warrant issued on February 4 by a Chief Magistrate's Court in Abuja, which authorized a search of his residence. The ICPC countered that the search was conducted under a valid warrant issued on February 18.

The court adjourned the matter until March 31, 2024, to hear the pending motion and ensure proper service of documents.
