JNPSNC Demands N500k Minimum Wage from President Tinubu

Workers under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) have formally requested President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action to alleviate the economic hardships faced by Nigerians. In their letter, they demanded the stabilization of petrol prices at N500 per litre and an immediate wage award, alongside a review of salaries and allowances in the public service.

They called for the establishment of a committee to negotiate a new National Minimum Wage of N500,000, with a deadline set for September 30, 2026. The workers expressed that the recent surge in petrol prices, reaching N1,430 per litre, has intensified the cost-of-living crisis.

They criticized the government's distribution of food palliatives as an inadequate and unsustainable response to economic challenges. The JNPSNC argued that reducing petrol prices would have a positive ripple effect on transportation and food costs, urging President Tinubu to act swiftly on their demands.
