Workers Demand ₦300,000 Minimum Wage from Tinubu

The Federal Workers Forum has formally requested the Nigerian government to review and increase the national minimum wage from ₦70,000 to ₦300,000. This request was made in a letter dated September 2, 2026, addressed to President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

The letter was signed by Andrew Emelieze, the National Coordinator, and Ogundele Ayodele, the General Secretary of the forum. The proposed salary structure suggests that the highest salary for Level 17 Step 1 officers should be ₦1.5 million.

The forum argues that the current wage does not reflect the rising cost of living and that the ₦70,000 minimum wage introduced in 2024 has not been fully implemented for federal employees. They claim that workers received only an additional ₦40,000 instead of a full adjustment.

The proposed salaries range from ₦300,000 for Level 1 to ₦1.5 million for Level 17 Step 1 officers.
