DSS Witness Details Owo Church Massacre in Court

On Tuesday, a witness from the Department of State Services (DSS) testified in a federal high court in Abuja regarding the Owo church massacre that occurred on June 5, 2022. The witness, identified as the 9th prosecuting witness, detailed how the five defendants—Idris Abdulmalik, Omeiza Abdulmalik, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris, and Momoh Otuho Abubakar—were paid, mobilized, and armed for the attack.

The DSS's investigation revealed that the defendants were part of an ISWAP cell operating in Kogi and Ondo states. The witness explained that a meeting was held on May 30, 2022, where plans for the attack were discussed, including instructions to ensure the killing of a priest.

The attack involved the use of firearms and explosives, with detailed accounts of how the weapons were concealed and the execution of the attack on the church. The court admitted the evidence presented without objection from the defense.
