Tinubu Appoints Lamido Yuguda as CBN Deputy Governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), subject to Senate confirmation. This appointment aligns with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007.

A statement released on Wednesday by Tinubu's special adviser highlighted that Yuguda's nomination follows the recent appointment of a former deputy governor as a special adviser on political economy. The statement emphasized Yuguda's commitment to Nigeria's economic stability and growth.

Lamido Yuguda's most recent public position was as the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, a role he held from 2020 to 2024. He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, graduating with a BSc in Accounting in 1983 and obtaining a Master’s degree in Money Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom in 1991.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a CFA charterholder. Yuguda began his career at the CBN in 1984 and has held various significant positions, including serving as Director of the Reserve Management Department until his retirement in 2016.
