Nigerian Senator Natasha Akpoti Faces Criminal Charges Under Penal Code

The Nigerian Attorney General's office has filed criminal charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, for violating the Penal Code. The charges, including defamation and conspiracy to assassinate, were brought against Akpoti and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

The Attorney General's office maintains that the prosecution is not politically motivated and is based on a comprehensive investigation by the Nigeria Police Force. Akpoti's defense counsel has challenged the validity of the charges, arguing that they constitute an abuse of prosecutorial power.

The case is pending in the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
