Nigerian Governors Support State Police and Reforms

During a meeting of the Nigeria Governors' Forum held in Abuja, state governors backed the establishment of state police and proposed constitutional amendments to support this initiative. The meeting, which took place on Wednesday and extended into Thursday, focused on major national issues, particularly security concerns.

The communiqué, signed by the forum's chairman, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, highlighted the need for a workable state police system and emphasized the importance of aligning the constitutional framework with citizens' rights. Dapo Abiodun, a member of the forum, reiterated that state police is a crucial step in addressing security challenges and called for careful structuring of the system.

The governors also discussed ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria's power sector and pledged support for initiatives aimed at improving nutrition, particularly among children, as part of a broader strategy to tackle malnutrition in the country.
