Nigerian Governors Support State Police and Reforms

The Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF) convened in Abuja to discuss critical national issues, with a significant focus on the establishment of state police and necessary constitutional amendments. The meeting, which extended into the early hours of Thursday, highlighted the ongoing security concerns across Nigeria.

NGF Chairman Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who is also the Governor of Kwara State, disclosed that progress is being made towards creating a workable state police system. The governors received detailed presentations from the NGF secretariat and state attorneys general regarding the establishment of state police.

Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasized that state police is a crucial step in addressing security challenges and insisted that the structure must be carefully designed. The forum noted the importance of dedicated consultations with attorneys general to review proposed constitutional amendments that would guide the implementation of state police across Nigeria.
