BREAKING: Tinubu Bans Establishment of New Federal Tertiary Institutions In Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu's administration has announced a ban on the establishment of new federal tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The decision was made during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, with Minister of Education Tunji Alausa stating that the moratorium applies to all categories of tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

Alausa cited the current challenges in Nigeria's education system, such as a lack of access to quality education and infrastructure deficits, as reasons for the ban. He emphasized the need to address the proliferation of institutions, which has led to a reduction in manpower efficiency and a decline in educational quality.

The Minister warned that failing to act decisively could further undermine the international respect that Nigerian graduates command.
