U.S. Donates $32.5 Million to WFP for Food Aid in Nigeria

The United States Government donated $32.5 million to the World Food Programme (WFP) to support food assistance programs in Nigeria. The donation aims to provide food and nutrition assistance to internally displaced persons in the Northeast and Northwest regions.

The WFP, a key humanitarian organization, reaches beneficiaries through various programs, including electronic food vouchers and maternal and child nutrition initiatives. The U.S. remains a significant donor to the WFP, contributing billions of dollars to combat hunger globally.

Earlier in 2025, the WFP warned of a potential suspension of assistance to millions in northeastern Nigeria due to critical funding shortages and depleted food stocks, impacting nearly 31 million Nigerians facing acute food insecurity.
