World Bank Approves $300m for Northern Nigeria Displacement and Host Communities Project

The World Bank has approved a $300 million fund for the Northern Nigeria Displacement and Host Communities Project, aimed at improving access to essential services and economic opportunities for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and host communities. The project will focus on transitioning IDPs from dependency on humanitarian aid to resilience, in line with Nigeria's development goals.

The initiative will address the impact of conflict and insecurity in Northern Nigeria, which has displaced millions of people and strained infrastructure and services in host communities. The project will support infrastructure development, social cohesion, economic integration of IDPs, livelihood support, and institution strengthening.

The World Bank expects the project to benefit millions of people, including IDPs, by promoting stability, resilience, and inclusive growth. Task Team Leaders emphasized the urgency of the initiative to bridge the gap between emergency relief and development in Northern Nigeria.
