British Museum, Oxford Team Pursue Nigerian Railway Heritage

A delegation from the British Museum and the University of Oxford, led by anthropologist Prof. Paul Bagu, visited Nigeria to discuss a potential partnership focused on the preservation and revitalization of Nigerian railway heritage.

The team expressed interest in collaborating with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and the NRC Legacy Museum, which serves as a valuable repository of Nigeria's industrial and cultural history. During the visit, Mr.

Tay Olaniyi, president of the NRC Legacy Museum, welcomed the visitors and acknowledged the contributions of Mr. Nate Aderiron, the retired director of the museum.

The discussions highlighted the historical connections between Britain and Nigeria's railway systems and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in preserving this heritage. The initiative draws parallels with similar efforts in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where local enthusiasts have significantly contributed to the revival of railway heritage.

This visit marks a significant step toward strengthening international partnerships to ensure the preservation of Nigeria's railway heritage for future generations.
