Nigeria Partners with UK to Enhance Rail Safety Investigations

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has entered a strategic partnership with the UK's Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) to enhance rail accident investigations in Nigeria. Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NSIB, undertook a technical mission to the UK to discuss embedding global best practices within Nigeria's rail accident investigation framework.

This partnership is part of NSIB's efforts to expand its mandate beyond aviation to include rail and maritime transport, positioning itself as a multimodal safety investigation authority. The collaboration includes a formal confirmation of operational correspondence and a peer review strategy to build capacity.

The NSIB aims to strengthen its investigative capabilities and improve safety oversight in Nigeria's expanding rail ecosystem, which is crucial for the country's transport safety and regulatory improvements. This initiative signals Nigeria's commitment to aligning with international standards and enhancing public confidence in its transport safety institutions.
