BudgIT Faults Govt Over Non-Publication Of Budget Reports

BudgIT, a civil society organization, criticized the Federal Ministry of Finance Budget Office of the Federation for failing to publish Quarterly Budget Implementation Reports (BIRs), which is a violation of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007. The Act mandates the Minister of Finance to publish reports on budget implementation within 30 days of the end of each quarter.

BudgIT highlighted that almost four BIRs from the second quarter of 2024 to the second quarter of 2025 remain unpublished, depriving the public of crucial information on how public resources are being utilized. The lack of transparency in fiscal disclosure not only hampers accountability but also affects planning and advocacy efforts.

BudgIT called for immediate resumption of BIR publication and urged various stakeholders to demand the release of expenditure performance reports to uphold Nigeria's democratic accountability and international credibility.
