PRESS RELEASE: BudgIT Calls Out Finance Ministry, Budget Office For Ignoring Fiscal Responsibility Act On Publishing Quarterly Budget Implementation Reports

BudgIT, a transparency and accountability organization in Nigeria, has criticized the Federal Ministry of Finance and Budget Office for failing to adhere to the Fiscal Responsibility Act by not publishing Quarterly Budget Implementation Reports (BIRs). The organization highlighted that this lack of transparency violates established laws and erodes the dissemination of crucial financial information to the public.

While the previous administration regularly published a minimum of three BIRs per fiscal year, the current administration has only released one report in nearly a year. BudgIT emphasized the importance of these reports in assessing the quality of budget implementation and urged the government to uphold transparency, accountability, and legal compliance in managing public funds.

The organization called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the urgent publication of expenditure performance data to uphold democratic principles and provide the public with necessary information.
