Nigerian Exchange Market Capitalisation Surges N65.4tn

In the first eight months of 2026, the overall market capitalisation of securities listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) increased by approximately N65.4 trillion, reaching N215.09 trillion by the end of August 2026. This represents a 43.7% rise from N149.735 trillion at the end of December 2025.
The increase was primarily driven by equities, which saw a rise of N58.5 trillion, or 59.04%, to N157.7 trillion. Bonds listed on the NGX also increased by N5.9 trillion, or 11.7%, to N56.3 trillion, while Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) rose by N6.39 billion, or 14.9%, to N49.236 billion.
The market capitalisation of commercial papers was reported at N71.15 billion, with corporate bonds/debentures increasing by 50.11% to N1.34 trillion. The federal government’s debt securities rose to N54.32 trillion, reflecting a 10.1% increase.
The growth was attributed to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s foreign exchange reforms, banking sector reforms, and increased government borrowing for the 2026 budget, contributing to a bullish trend in the Nigerian capital market.
