Burna Boy and Shakira Shine at Tournament Halftime Show

Burna Boy, the Nigerian Afrobeat star, collaborated with Colombian pop star Shakira during the halftime show of the final match of a tournament held in Mexico City last month. Despite the Super Eagles not qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, Burna Boy's presence on stage was celebrated by Nigerian viewers.

The halftime show lasted approximately 11 minutes, shorter than the projected 25 minutes, and included performances by Madonna, Brazilian icons Ronaldinho and Ronaldo de Lima, as well as Justin Bieber, who featured in a chorus. Other performers included Laura Pausini, Nicol Scherzinger, and Jennifer Hudson, who sang the American anthem.

The event was curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay and aimed to raise $100 million for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which supports 73 million children worldwide.
