Burundi Urges Nigeria to Resume Crude Oil Supply

Edward Nduwimana, the Ambassador of Burundi to Nigeria, has called for the urgent resumption of crude oil supplies from Nigeria, which previously provided 45,000 barrels per day under a bilateral agreement from 2008 to 2014. The supply was suspended amid reforms in Nigeria's petroleum sector, significantly impacting Burundi's energy needs.

Nduwimana made this appeal during an interaction with journalists in Abuja, stressing the importance of reconvening a permanent mixed commission to revive stalled agreements and unlock new economic partnerships. He expressed gratitude for Nigeria's past support, which helped mitigate Burundi's energy deficit.

The ambassador highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting that the last session of the commission was held in Bujumbura in 2021. He proposed a meeting to review previous commitments and chart a new roadmap for cooperation, which could enhance trade, education, tourism, and investment between the two nations.

Nduwimana also invited Nigerian investors to explore opportunities in Burundi, describing it as an emerging investment destination in East Africa.
