CACOL Condemns Attack on Protesters in Lagos, Demands Release of Activist

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL) has strongly criticized the recent attack and arrest of peaceful protesters in Lagos, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Hassan Soweto and other detainees. CACOL expressed concern over the alleged use of gunfire and aggressive police action during the protests at the Lagos State House of Assembly and the State Government Secretariat in Alausa.

The group emphasized the fundamental right to peaceful assembly and condemned the police for what they described as a gross overreach of authority and a violation of democratic norms. CACOL highlighted the implications of using force against peaceful protests, stating that such actions could lead to social unrest and undermine peace in Lagos State.

The organization called for a transparent and independent investigation into the incident and urged the police to respect the rights of citizens to engage in peaceful demonstrations.
