CAF Confirms 2027 AFCON Dates for East Africa Hosts

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the dates for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This landmark tournament marks the first time AFCON will be held across three countries, expanding the tournament's reach to approximately 400 million people in the East African region.

The preliminary round draw for the qualification will occur on May 19, 2026, with a total of 48 teams, including the three co-host nations, entering the qualification campaign. The CAF stated that the tournament's return to East Africa carries significant historical weight, as the region last hosted AFCON in 1976, with Ethiopia as the host.

The CAF aims to build on the momentum from recent tournaments in Morocco and Côte d'Ivoire, which have seen strong growth in commercial revenue and global broadcast audiences. The exact venue for the opening match and final will be confirmed at a later date.
