Kenya Pays $30M for AFCON 2027 Hosting Rights

Kenya has officially settled a $30 million hosting fee to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to secure its position as a co-host for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), alongside Uganda and Tanzania. The payment was confirmed in a statement by Ababu Namwamba, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Sports, who described it as a strong indication of the country's readiness to deliver a successful tournament.

This financial commitment is seen as a significant step in Kenya's preparations for the continental football showcase. Namwamba also disclosed that the government has inaugurated a multi-agency local organizing committee to oversee the preparations, emphasizing that the efforts extend beyond financial obligations.

The move aligns with President William Ruto's vision for Kenya to emerge as a leading destination for global sporting events, highlighting regional cooperation in delivering a world-class event.
