CAF Confirms AFCON 2027 Dates and Co-Hosts

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 will occur in June and July 2027. Patrice Motsepe, the CAF president, dismissed rumors regarding the tournament's postponement or relocation from its planned co-hosting by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

This announcement followed a press conference in Dar es Salaam after a meeting of CAF's executive committee, which raised concerns about whether the East African hosts would have the necessary infrastructure ready in time. Nichola Musony, chair of Kenya's local organizing committee, indicated that preparations might be affected by the general elections scheduled for August 2027.

Motsepe, however, expressed confidence in the hosts' capability to deliver a successful tournament. CAF will continue to inspect the facilities across the three host nations until Tuesday.

The tournament will now be held every four years instead of every two, with the exact dates for AFCON 2027 to be announced later. Additionally, the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is scheduled to start on March 17, 2026, in Morocco.
