CAF Snubs Nigeria, Nominates South Africa and Ghana for National Team of the Year

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has nominated South Africa and Ghana for the National Team of the Year award, snubbing Nigeria due to their underwhelming display in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Nigeria's Super Eagles struggled under coaches Jose Peseiro and legend Finidi George, eventually securing a playoff spot.

Notable teams nominated include Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia. Nigeria's Esther Okoronkwo and Rasheedat Ajibade were also nominated for individual awards.

The exclusion of Nigeria highlights their disappointing campaign and early exit from the World Cup qualifiers.
