Admission Without UTME: Alternative Routes in Nigeria

In Nigeria, it is possible to gain university admission without writing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) through alternative routes such as open universities, Direct Entry, and accredited nursing schools. Miva Open University, established in 2023 by the uLesson Group and licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC), admits students without requiring UTME.

Applications for the May 2026 cohort opened in February 2026, with classes starting in May 2026. Miva admits students three times a year, and applicants with HND, IJMB, or JUPEB certificates can enter at the 200 level.

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), established in 1983, also provides distance learning programs without UTME requirements. Admission for the 2026/2027 academic year requires relevant O'Level results.

Iconic Open University, Nigeria's leading private open and distance university, allows admission without UTME but requires JAMB registration for NYSC mobilization after graduation.
