IRCC Clarifies Visa and Travel Requirements for Canada

On 20 September 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published responses to four frequently asked questions by foreigners planning to visit Canada. The first question addressed whether a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required, stating that most visitors need one based on their citizenship and travel plans.

The second point covered processing times for visitor visas, indicating that applicants must submit complete applications with all required documents, as processing durations can vary. The third question pertained to documentation, where IRCC confirmed that a digital copy of a valid passport or travel document is necessary, which must remain valid for at least six months from the intended travel date.

Lastly, IRCC clarified that visitors are not allowed to work or study unless specifically authorized, requiring separate work or study permits in those cases.
