IRCC Lists Reasons for Work Permit Application Refusals

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has published a breakdown of seven reasons that may lead to the refusal of work permit applications submitted from outside Canada. Key factors include failure to meet specific eligibility requirements for the type of work permit applied for and weak ties to the applicant's home country, which may suggest they are unlikely to return after their authorized stay.

When an application is refused, the applicant receives a decision letter detailing the outcome. Most applicants can submit a new application unless explicitly stated otherwise in the decision letter.

However, reapplying is only advisable if new information or documentation is included that addresses the original application’s shortcomings. For successful applicants, the process continues with the issuance of a port of entry letter of introduction, which must be presented upon arrival in Canada to receive the actual work permit.
