Canada Allows US Citizens and Residents Visa-Free Entry

Canada has announced that citizens of the United States are exempt from needing a visa or electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter the country. This exemption also applies to lawful permanent residents of the United States, a provision that took effect on 26 April 2022.

Travellers must present two specific documents: a valid passport issued by their country or territory of nationality, or an equivalent travel document accepted by Canadian authorities, along with a valid green card or an equivalent document proving lawful status in the United States. Both documents are mandatory for entry, regardless of the mode of travel—air, land, or sea.

Travellers who do not meet these criteria must apply for an eTA or a visa based on their nationality before travelling to Canada.
