Caramel Plug and Anita Joseph's AI Photo Controversy

The conflict began when content creator Ogechi Ukonu, known as Caramel Plug, posted a birthday photoshoot image weeks prior. On July 6, 2026, actress Anita Joseph shared the same image on her Instagram, but with Caramel's face replaced by her own.

Anita's caption read, “A woman cannot submit and be in survival mode at the same time.” Following backlash, Anita removed the post and apologized, attributing the incident to an “AI boy” who generated the image without her knowledge. Caramel responded by accusing Anita of theft and expressed disbelief that Anita would use her image without permission.

She claimed her comments on Anita's post were deleted. Caramel rejected the apology and criticized Anita for her actions.

Actress Angela Okorie also criticized Anita, calling her a “bad person.” The situation escalated as other Nollywood actresses began posting the same image with their faces superimposed, prompting Caramel to address the unauthorized use of her photo.
