CBN Warns Public About Rise in Online Scams and Fraud

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has alerted the public to an increase in fraudulent emails and online scams aimed at deceiving unsuspecting individuals. In a press statement released late Tuesday night, CBN's Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi Ali, emphasized that these misleading communications falsely claim to originate from the bank and are designed to manipulate recipients into disclosing personal data.

The bank noted that these fraudulent messages often prompt recipients to click on malicious links, leading to unauthorized access to sensitive financial information. CBN stressed the growing sophistication of cyber threats and urged the public to remain vigilant when interacting online.

The bank reiterated that its official website is the primary channel for verifying communications and advised individuals to avoid clicking on suspicious links or sharing personal financial information on unverified platforms. CBN remains committed to safeguarding the Nigerian financial system and enhancing its cybersecurity infrastructure in collaboration with relevant agencies.
